R.A.L.E.T football team 2017
This year Ger and Barry assembled a school football team for the boys in 4th class and up. The boys who wanted to join the team did trials to see if they could make the team. The people who made the Squad are: Nicholas 6th,Cian 6th, Eric 6th, Ciaran 6th, Sam 6th, Sean 6th, Finn 6th, Jack 6th, Dylan 6th, Aiden 6th, Lee 6th, Oran 6th, Tom 5th, Sean 5th, Tadgh 5th, Lorcan 5th, Alan 5th, David 5th, Flavius 5th, Evan 5th, Harry 4th, Daragh 4th, Dylan 4th, Euan 4th, and Jessie 4th. Our lads train on Wednesdays on Station road or sometimes in the school grounds.
Our first game was against St.Teresa’s from Balbriggan. Our lads started very strongly and very nearly scored in the second minute through Eric, but unfortunately for us the keeper pulled off an amazing save. Our defence Dylan (6th), Cian, Sean(5th), Tom and Nicholas were as solid as a rock throughout. Our midfield of Aiden, Oran, Alan, Lorcan and Eric constantly put pressure on the opposition’s midfield and defence all the way through and created some very dangerous scoring chances. Our lads in midfield and up top fought like lions throughout, won their tackles and put in 100 percent. We were very hard done by when we conceded a free kick right outside the penalty area. Against the run of play, the St.Teresa’s player found the net and R.A.L.E.T found themselves 1-0 down. With half time fast approaching, R.A.L.E.T never dropped their heads and kept going to the final whistle. After half time, R.A.L.E.T found their feet and started to move the ball more quickly. With R.A.L.E.T constantly knocking on the St.Teresa’s door, R.A.L.E.T just couldn’t seem to find the net. As R.A.L.E.T started to push forward, a few balls went over the top of our defence and the opposition players had the pace to beat the offside trap, rounded Jack and poked the ball home, making it 2-0 to St.Teresa’s. Our lads continued to go at St.Teresa’s, but it really just wasn’t our day. St.Teresa’s were very solid in defence and held firm. St.Teresa’s killed us off at the end with a well worked goal. R.A.L.E.T played nowhere close to what the score line suggested and couldn’t have been too much unluckier. R.A.L.E.T were so unlucky and hopefully we can bounce back next week.
