Green Flag Ceremony June 2024

29th Jun 2024

This week was a very special week here at our school because we are celebrating our Green Flag Award for our work in protecting the marine environment. This award is a wonderful recognition of our efforts to keep our oceans and waterways clean and healthy.

The Green School committee have worked exceptionally hard this year, doing things like reducing plastic use, testing the water quality in our local stream, cleaning up the beaches and the area around Bride’s stream, and learning about marine life and sources of marine litter. To celebrate a great year, the green school committee had a beach day on Tuesday, where they did a litter pick, had a picnic and then jumped in the sea! Later in the week the committee held a Green Flag celebration for the whole school. Michelle’s 1st class recited their poem ‘Undersea’ and 6th class sang their graduation song “RaLET’s Call”, we raised our green flag and finished off assembly with The RaLET Anthem. To finish it off the ice-cream van and everyone in the school got an ice-cream cone!

The green school committee are a wonderful group of passionate, optimistic, clever and kind eco warriors and they have represented their classes so well this year. Well done Green School Committee! The world is a better place with you all in it!

Next year we will be working towards the next green flag ‘Global Citizenship: Transport’ and we will be encouraging every family to leave the car behind at every chance possible and reduce our carbon emissions… we look forward to walk/scoot to school days, cycling lessons, taking public transport and much more!
