On the 2nd and 3rd of October we had a huge Harvest celebration in the hall! All of the classes had a chance to come and try food which was cooked using fruit and veg grown here in Ralet. This included tomato sauce with pasta, pumpkin soup and apple crumble. There were also fun activities for the children to explore how food feels, smells, looks and sounds. Have a look at the pictures to see! News2day even came along to film what we were doing – you can see here:
We have lots of people to thank for making this celebration so successful. Firstly our many parent helpers who came in on the day and made sure everything ran smoothly! Thank you Priyanka, Christina, Maggie, Olivia, Sarah, Michelle, Yvonne, Sandra, Tricia, Sam and Miriam. Pat the farmer and Caroline also brought some local organic produce to show the children and Pat spoke to the classes about harvest time.
We had nearly 40 bakers who donated delicious apple crumbles, puddings, scones, bread, cakes, jams and chutneys.
All in all it was a super few days which showed the wonderful community spirit here in RaLET.
We plan to continue to use the space we have here to grow and we will be having a garden Meitheal very soon! Everyone is welcome!
