As part of Book Week 2019, we thought it would be a lovely opportunity for children to have access to some books in their native languages. Here in RaLET, we have a wide range of languages being spoken on a daily basis so Book Week allowed us to celebrate this! As you can see from the photographs, some of the older children read stories to some of the younger children. They read stories through Russian, Arabic, Lithuanian, French, Polish and Chinese. The children were able to pick a book, read the story and have some time to talk about it. We also had two mystery readers join us-Barbara, Junior Infant SNA, who read some stories in Polish and Helen’s mum (Irene’s Senior Infants) come in to Senior Infants who read a story in Chinese! The children really enjoyed the experience and getting to know some other children who also speak the same language as they do. It was so much fun that some of our children have already promised to bring in some books from home to read to their new reading buddies! A huge well done to all involved!
